Fortune Bay Inlet Dredging Update 2022-10-31

Here is a short exchange that I had on Facebook with LUSCO (Lucaya Services Company) which has been given the dredging contract for Fortune Bay Inlet:

Dave Tobias
It's mid September with no dredge in place. What happened to beginning early September? What's the actual schedule if you please?

Hi Dave, in an effort to maintain the sustainability of our oceans and its ecosystems, a survey is currently being done for suspected coral deposits in the area of the Fortune Bay Canal. Once this is completed, the dredging will commence. Coral Vita will be doing the marine survey.

I have messaged Coral Vita to see if they will respond with status and an Estimated Time for Completion of this task.  Bottom line, there is no real pressure to move forward and things are being done on island time.  This is not intended to be pejorative but rather simply a statement of fact.  Many things are done on island time here.

Regardless of reasons, when I see "environmental study in progress" I do not hold my breath.  While I will withhold final judgement until Coral Vita responses, my (considerable) gut tells me that that this could take 6 months or more to complete before dredging begins in 2H 2023.
