A very nice feature to have for convenience and safety is a marina style power pedestal with built in water and electrical circuit breakers. Before moving to the Bahamas I purchased a slimline power pedestal made by International Dock Products. This unit has twin water spigots, twin 30 amp service, local breakers and an attractive dock light. The pyramid cap makes it difficult for birds to land and make a mess all over the unit.
Here is the infrastructure that existed before we replaced it. It was a simple exposed PVC water source which was at risk of breaking off if you were not very careful with the hose bib.
Also, there was a big patch of concrete missing which was part of the original solution for walking down to a lower dock. There used to be wood jutting out per the red drawing and then small steps down. All of that wood was gone when I bought the place. So we had to repair that concrete as part of the power pedestal upgrade.
We cut the PVC water line down and then installed the power pedestal on top of it using more PVC and galvanized steel plumbing parts. This sounds easy but it was a pain in the ass to get it all anchored down and aligned with the existing water source. Here is what it looks like now with electrical twin 30 amp service connected and the conduit for the electrical cable buried in the concrete used to fix the void seen above. It came out quite nicely and you can barely tell where the new concrete was just poured.
Here you can see that we ran the 6 awg wires through PVC electrical conduit and then fastened it to the face of the concrete seawall. A big part of this job was installing these heavy wires on the side of the seawall.
We ran the conduit along the wall and then up over the seawall using a preexisting space at the end of the concrete deck.
We then trenched and buried the conduit leading to the boathouse where we took power from.
This is the subpanel taken off the boat house's main panel and then used to feed the power pedestal, the ice maker and also our new bait freezer as seen below.
The end result is below at night showing off the nice glow put out by the power pedestal.
