My initial report provided links to news items indicating that the dredging and jetty updates for Fortune Bay Inlet were forthcoming. At the time there was no visible progress but in the past 3-4 weeks significant things have occurred within the red circled zone below.
We first noticed that some pretty massive construction project was occurring on the right bank (as you exit) about 300 yards inside the inlet. Today I noticed that construction signs had been placed at the entrance to West Beach Rd. as well as just past Sir Francis Pt.
Heading down the road toward the Dolphin Experience there is now a new construction entrance. The site is clearly marked as the Fortune Bay Inlet dredging and jetty repair project.
I talked to the security guard and got permission to walk the property and take some pictures. Walking through the construction entrance we can see they have cleared a road system.
It goes quite a ways back.
They even made an employee parking area.
Walking past the employee parking area the road continues back toward the canal.
Walking to the end of this road and then turning right we have the main equipment yard. This is the area that we saw them clearing out as we drove out the canal in early April. So it is clear they are actively working on this project now. It's going to be great to get this canal back to 10 feet MLW and then also have the jetty re-engineered so it doesn't just silt over within a couple years.
